Summary:  My experience in teaching and research in mathematics totals over 33 years.

I enjoy attending colloquiums and seminars in mathematics and mathematics education and remain professionally active.  I have made significant contributions to my specialty in topological algebra.  The primary focus of my career in mathematics, however, has been my commitment to quality teaching and to my students.  Students of all ages and a wide range of abilities have benefited by my clear and comprehensible explanations of everything from fractions to fractal geometry.  I practice a “down to earth” approach to teaching mathematics and utilize instructional software and other technology while pointing out their limitations.  I make an effort to present all of the topics within the context of “real life” applications.  This gives the students an appreciation of mathematics as a practical tool for solving problems in their respective fields of interest.  Students often describe me as an engaging and enthusiastic teacher in student evaluations.

Personal:  I was born in Wheeling, WV, USA.  My hobbies include music, martial arts, yoga, and running, swimming and learning new things.  I am qualified to give piano lessons and have been playing over forty years.

I encourage highly motivated and mathematically talented students to engage in supervised research.  Several of my former students have presented their findings at professional conferences.  Mathematics and its teaching are my passion and both have been personally and professionally rewarding.
